Fun Facts About Pink Pitaya (Red Dragon Fruit) ▼
- Dragon fruit is native to Central America and was brought to Southeast Asia by French missionaries in the early 19th century — today, Vietnam is one of the world’s largest producers.
- The vivid pink-red color of pitaya comes from betacyanins, the same family of pigments found in beets and prickly pear.
- Dragon fruit flowers only bloom at night and are pollinated by bats and moths — earning them the nickname “moonflower.”
- Dragon fruit is a member of the cactus family (Hylocereus) and can thrive in arid climates with very little water.
